Quick leads Kings to victory over Blue Jackets

Hockey Betting Lines

12/23/2008 - Columbus, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jonathan Quick made 24 saves to pick up his first career shutout, as the Los Angeles Kings snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Quick, a third-round choice by the Kings in the 2005 draft, was playing in just his sixth NHL game and picked up his second career win.

Patrick O'Sullivan, Raitis Ivanans and Peter Harrold each tallied once for the Kings, who hadn't won since a December 13 contest against Minnesota.

Steve Mason faced 42 shots for the Blue Jackets, stopping 39 of them, but Columbus once more provided him with no goal support, getting shut out for the second consecutive game. The Blue Jackets, who have lost three in a row, dropped a 2-0 decision Saturday to Phoenix.

The Kings picked up two goals in the opening period to take control, the first of which came just 2:56 into the contest. Mason couldn't keep a shot under wraps, and the puck bounced out to the left side of the ice. Ivanans got to the juicy rebound with Mason still on the right side of the net, and flicked it in net before the goaltender could slide over.

Almost nine minutes later, O'Sullivan made it a 2-0 game. Anze Kopitar sent a pass under a sprawled-out Columbus defender to the left side for a one-timer from O'Sullivan.

The Kings kept the lead through the second period, in which Quick made 10 saves and Mason turned aside all 21 he saw.

Los Angeles' lead stayed the same until the mid-point of the third period, when Rick Nash appeared to have scored after slapping the puck out of the air. But it was called a no-goal on the ice and, after a review, the ruling held up.

Harrold then scored with 2:08 remaining to put the game out of reach for Columbus.
